Starting with a strong and thorough understanding of proper physical technique, we systematically train singers’ bodies to, simply, do what they need to do to make a great sound.
Lessons focus on posture, breathing, resonance, and diaphragmatic support. Our approach combines the highly-regarded bel canto technique (originating in early 18th century Italy) with the contemporary speech-like approaches that have transformed the pop and musical theatre worlds.
Singers also study the art of interpreting lyrics and music. Once they understand and embrace the intended meaning of a song, our singers learn performance techniques designed to effectively, powerfully, and authentically communicate to an audience.
Lessons are 55 minutes in length and are offered on a weekly or on a bi-weekly basis. Sessions are in-person or on Zoom.
By focusing on self-awareness and consistency of approach, our singers become dependable performers with a reliably professional sound.
Full audition preparation is a highlight of our instruction. Students practice physical technique, character analysis, singing with accompaniment, how to move on stage during an audition, as well as the tidbits of what to wear and how to present yourself.
As Gina has a theatre degree in addition to her music degrees, many students spend lessons preparing monologues for auditions or working through scripts for role preparation.
We also spend a little time on music theory — making sure each singer knows their way around both traditional sheet music and pop/jazz lead sheets.
